The Story of how Iantosca became Antosca –
Born Vincenzo Iantosca in Montefalcione in the province of Avellino, Italy. Came to USA 2-19-1900on the ship the "Furst Bismarck". His name on the ship's translated manifest is listed as Vincenzo Iandono, his wife as Maria Ciampa and his daughter as Caterina Iandono. . Ellis Island officially gave him the name Vincent Yantosca and his brother James the last name of Yantosca as well. This may have happened because their names were spelled phonetically and they had a heavy accent. One day James came upon a legal document with his name and found that it was being spelled Yantosca. This upset his brother Vincent. Vincent went and looked up his records and indeed they had given him the same last name of Yantosca. There is no "y" in the Italian language so Vincent dropped the "Y" from his name and that's how we became known as Antosca. This was done sometime after 1910.
